This weekend was the start of the Louisville Triple Crown of Running with the Anthem 5k. It also marked my first race as an official member of the Louisville Bat's racing team.
The race started off well with me running one of my fastest miles yet (a 5:50). I somehow got a seeded start this year which put me in a group of 100 runner's that got to start ahead of everyone else. That was a tremendious help as last year I spent the first mile and a half just weaving through people. There was a little bit of that this year, but not nearly as bad; it was pretty much wide open for me this year :) I do remember this one guy who passed me at the start wearing basketball shorts and a thick hoodie (with the hood pulled up), which I later saw standing on the side of the road near the .7 mile mark trying to catch his breath.
Lynn and I both set new PR's (Personal Record) 30:14 and 19:09 respectively! I ended up placing 124th out of over 8500 finishers and 17th in my age group. What was also nice is that Lynn's mom came out and ran it with us. She's been mocking us for a while talking about how crazy we are for running and stuff. She seemed to really enjoy it and has been really excited to train with Lynn a couple of times a week. The fact that she's training with Lynn is really cool because it gives them more time together and something to bond over.

Our team ended up finishing 3rd in the team challenge and I almost got 3rd place within our team! I was actually in 3rd place until right at the end when Tom passed me and beat me by a few seconds. I'm still very happy with my performance and look forward to seeing how well I can do in the 10k. I do better in my training for tempo run as oppose to my speedwork, so I'm hoping to place 3rd in the team. Tom's a good runner though, so we'll just have to wait and see...
Photos of me during the race can be seen on the Brightroom page.
